Good, could be even better

The information and the way it is delivered are excellent, except for one most annoying problem: There are cover to cover acronyms and, unless one is reading from cover to cover, one is bound to come up against an acronym which means nothing to one! (And so, presumably, to one or two, or more, others). The book is heavy (pounds weight) but would more expansive elucidation of these abbreviations be a waste of resources? If so, a glossary of these time wasting distractions needs to be appended.

Great Emergency Medicine Textbook

I have found this book excellent to use. It is a pretty compact book covering most areas of emergency medicine in less than 1000 pages. The only downside is that sometimes due to this the finer details are missing.... but i guess that's what those big thick reference texts are for. Also it's written by members of the Australian College of Emergency Medicine so it's great for studying for ACEM exams.

Poor binding

Very good book for studying and easy to read.
But the binding is very poor and pages keep coming off as you read.
May be the binding should be similar to their paediatric version of emergency medicine.
Most of the pages in my book are flying around now and some of them are stapled..........

Grade 1-3 There is no arguing the rich con tributions and enduring popularity of both Dr. Seuss and James Stevenson in the world of children's literature. Despite (or, perhaps, because of) their individual cre dentials, I Am Not Going to Get Up Today is a disappointment. The story of a little boy who refuses to get out of bed holds promise, but Dr. Seuss' rhymes are un even and forced, lacking the natural ca dence and choice of terms so necessary for the success of a beginning reader for mat. Stevenson's identifiable watercolor and ink illustrations are loose and fluid but border on messy. There is not a positive meshing of text and illustration in this book; readers never get the feeling that they belong together. All factors combine to make this book less than satisfying. Enjoyable but not classic

It's really a fun book to read. The illustrations aren't by Seuss so I'm assuming this is probably one he'd never intended to publish. But it's out there now. And you've got your 1 star reviewers up in arms because the kid gets to stay in bed. OH NO! (Screams the logical person) a kid gets to sleep in? How terrible.
I read a review by a "working parent" (congratulations on being a part of the group known as everybody) who was so upset that it seems this book will derail her whole life. I think a little good parenting would prevent that. Plus, as a working parent it's kinda nice when the kids want to sleep in. It gives you a little down time. Was it the best Seuss book? No. Was it fun? Yes. Was it illustrated by Seuss? No. 3 stars.

Teach instead of punish

I'm not sure if there are any other books that really introduce the positive discipline idea of a "time in". This does it very well and gets kids interested in making their own space. If you can teach them to go off and calm down on their own then it will be WAY better than trying to force them to do a traditional time-out.

Very useful

I have used the Making Out In ... series before for Mandarin and Korean and purchased this one for a friend who was interested in Japanese culture. It was entertaining enough that my friend picked up many useful phrases pretty easily. This is not the best learning tool but it bridges the gap between a stodgy scripted material and something more entertaining and fun to learn.

If you are not familiar with this series you should be warned that this does contain foul language.

Buy this as a supplement to your Japanese studies!

Good for a good laugh

I bought the Arabic version a few years back and thought it was hilarious so when my daughter got stationed in Okinawa, I bought her this book. Her Japanese coworkers have perused and said it isn't that far off, although they highly recommended that, as a woman, some of the phrases are not recommended.

Adorable!!

I love children's books by Bill Martin and Eric Carle. I really love reading "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?" and "Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear?" to my preschoolers and when I heard there was a new book, I had to find a copy and buy it. I can't wait to read this book to my class along with the other two books. It is soooo adorable! The pictures are cute and easy for the children to remember.

Great Companion to a Classic

This book is similar to the original Brown Bear book, with illustrations of panda bear, bald eagle, water buffalo, spider monkey, green sea turtle, macaroni penguin, sea lion, red wolf, whooping crane, black panther, and moon-faced dreaming child.

The illustrations are beautiful--Carle's signature watercolor-collage style. While Brown Bear's illustrations show each animal against stark white backgrounds, Panda Bear's illustrations feature them against bold backgrounds. (My sensitive younger toddler found the red wolf and the black panther illustrations a little scary, so we skip those pages for now.)

Although this book doesn't lend itself to teaching basic colors and animal sounds the way that the original does, it is a good way to teach the concept of endangered species to younger children. Overall, a great companion to a classic!

Not quite as captivating as Brown, Bear

It's a nice concept and most kids will love the words, different animals and the concept of going from one animal to another. Panda Bear was really written because Brown Bear established such a terrific template. In other words it's a sequel. Like most sequels it doesn't quite measure up.
Kids will still enjoy the colorful pictures, sounds of words and guessing what comes next in the story. Perhaps that's all they need. Sometimes the educational aspect is important and sometimes kids just need entertainment. This is entertaining for little ones and it's a simple enough story so that little ones can start pretending to read and feel more grown up.
