Ignore the other guy, it's worth it.

Ignore the other review, this book is written by Rick Riordan, and is a very entertaining read. It helps offer insight into the asgardian universe and adds more story to the characters. Definitely worth the money, especially while waiting for the hammer of Thor.

Interesting Book But There's a Better One to Read First

This book is interesting but also somewhat esoteric and opinionated. A much more useful book to start out with is LIFETYPES by Sandra Krebs Hirsh and Jean Kummerow. They also cover Myers-Briggs temperament preferences but in a more straightforward, readable, and immediately usable way. I am a psychologist and I have found LIFETYPES to be perhaps the most personally and professionally useful book I've ever found. If, after reading it, you want to explore different approaches to temperament and explore the topic in greater depth, then David Keirsey's work would be of interest.

Great and indepth

My sister actually got me interested in understanding personality types. I noticed we were getting along so much better than we ever had prior including more in-depth conversations. She told me she thought I was an ISFP. Which of course I had no clue what that meant. She told me to read the section on SP and SJ personality types. I did the test FOUR different times ENFJ and Guardian, which she wholly disagreed. I started reading what the test had told me I was and I thought Sure! That sounds like me! I must be that one! After about 5 times choosing what I "thought" I was, until I read the section on the ISFP, but it still didn't quite click. THEN I read on the "SP"!! It was the strangest thing to actually see myself in black and white! It was insane!!! All my traits, all the things I thought I had issues on, I now completely understood the reason WHY I was doing certain things. I also understood why I wasn't able to get along or communicate with, and understand them as well. And understand how I could not get along with the people my own personality types! Now that I understand more and the reasons for the clash, I can choose another, and better, approach to communicate. It is a little hard to get into. You first need to start to try to find your own personality type, and you can't decide right away. If you start getting frustrated you must give yourself a break and come back too it later. The more you read the closer you will be to identify with the them, and, in turn, understand the people around you. Love this book! I also read that thing system to identify personality traits have been around for thousands years. Also the Please Understand Me II is extremely similar, just a little more in-depth and different scenarios to help relate to people and situations.

I've found this book very helpful for self introspection throughout several major life transitions over the years. I first found it in college and have returned to it many times. It is interesting to see how the understanding I gain from this book evolves as I mature and age. I've purchased this book multiple times because I keep loaning it to friends who also find it useful.

One thing to caution, the personality quiz is highly subjective and the results should not be viewed as hard and fast. It should be used to guide you in the right direction, but might not be entirely accurate right away. It is more important to read and understand the differences of the personality types and contemplate how they reflect who you are.

Anytime I am in a challenging transition in my life I have been able to use this book as a tool to understand myself on a deeper level and find clarity. It is easy to read and I highly recommend this book.

About the Author
James Earl Massey is Dean Emeritus and Distinguished Professor-at-Large at the Anderson University School of Theology. He is also Pastor Emeritus and founding pastor of the Metropolitan Church of God in Detroit. The author of many articles and contributions to composite works, his several books include The Responsible Pulpit, Designing the Sermon, The Burdensome Joy of Preaching, and Sundays in the Tuskegee Chapel. Dr. Massey has preached and lectured at more than 100 colleges, universities, and seminaries in the United States and on four continents.

Designing the Sermon

This text does an excellent job of breaking down the sermon design process. The text does not exclude the prayerful time of preparation nor the working of the Holy Spirit in the preparation of the sermon, but it does give a basic pattern for each type of sermon that is useful and helpful in giving the preparer additional thoughts concerning the sermon.
